The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) is responsible for maintaining the state's correctional facilities. DOCCS oversees 52 facilities, including prisons and juvenile detention centers. 

If your loved one is serving a sentence in a New York state prison, you can search for them using the Inmate Lookup tool on the DOCCS website. This tool allows you to search by the inmate's name or Department Identification Number (DIN). In addition, you can also search for inmates by their birth year and gender. 

Some of the main state prisons in New York include Sing Sing Correctional Facility, Attica Correctional Facility, and Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. 

If your loved one is being held in a federal prison in New York, you can search for them using the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Inmate Locator tool. This tool allows you to search for inmates by their name, registration number, age, and race. You can also search for inmates by the facility in which they are being held. 

Some of the main federal prisons in New York include Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, Federal Correctional Institution Otisville, and Federal Correctional Institution Ray Brook. 

County jails in New York state are managed by local law enforcement agencies, such as the sheriff's department or police department. If your loved one is being held in a county jail, you can contact the local law enforcement agency to inquire about their location. 

Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) is a service that allows you to search for information about offenders in New York state. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is free to use. 

To use VINE, you will need to create an account and provide some basic information about yourself and the offender you are searching for. Once you have created an account, you can search for offenders by their name or inmate identification number.
