Help for Victims of Domestic Violence

In August 1996, the State of Alaska revised and updated the Domestic Violence laws making virtually all crimes against persons involving family members, married or unmarried partners, domestic violence cases. The new laws are extensive and make a lot of significant changes in how the criminal justice community deals with domestic violence.

The Domestic Violence Team is responsible for insuring the safety of the victim, addressing the victim's needs, providing information and assistance to the victim with legal questions, shelter and counseling needs. The team works directly with the District Attorney, Probations, the Court system and the Alaska Family Services.

If you are a victim of domestic violence and don't know what to do or where to turn, you can get help. The Alaska Family Services Center, located in Palmer, is available to assist you. If you need help call them at 746-4080 or call the Palmer Police Department, 745-4811.

Call 911 if it is an emergency.
