When a loved one is incarcerated, it can be a difficult and overwhelming time for their family and friends. Fortunately, the state of Florida provides resources to help locate inmates and stay connected with them during their time in custody.

The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is responsible for maintaining state correctional facilities. They oversee 145 correctional institutions, which include prisons, work camps, and community release centers.

To locate an inmate in a Florida state prison, you can use the Florida Department of Corrections' online inmate search tool. You'll need to provide the inmate's full name or DC number to conduct a search. The FDC's website also provides a list of Florida state prisons, their locations, and contact information.

Some of the main Florida state prisons include:

  • Union Correctional Institution in Raiford
  • Florida State Prison in Starke
  • Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala
  • Dade Correctional Institution in Florida City

If your loved one is in federal custody, you can search for them on the Federal Bureau of Prisons' website. The BOP manages 13 federal prisons in Florida, including:

  • Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County
  • Miami Federal Correctional Institution in Miami-Dade County
  • Tallahassee Federal Correctional Institution in Leon County
  • Pensacola Federal Prison Camp in Escambia County

County jails in Florida are managed by local sheriff's offices. To locate an inmate in a county jail, you can check the sheriff's office website or call their jail information line. Many sheriff's offices also have an online inmate search tool.

Vine Platform

Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) is a free, automated service that provides victims and their families with information about an offender's custody status. VINE is available for Florida state and county inmates.

To use VINE, you can visit their website or call their toll-free number. You'll need to provide the offender's name or inmate ID number and register for notifications. VINE will then provide you with custody status updates via phone, email, or text message.

In conclusion, locating an inmate in Florida state or federal prison or county jail can be a stressful and challenging process. However, by using the resources available through the Florida Department of Corrections, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and local sheriff's offices, as well as VINE, you can find your loved one and stay informed about their custody status.
